4S22U Explosive reactive armour elements

The 4S22U explosive reactive armour elements are a modernized version of the 4S22
elements, used in Kontakt-5 ERA (installed on the Soviet T-72 and T-80 tanks).

The principle of operation of the elements is similar to 4S20U, but owing to increased energy
and sensitivity of the explosive of the 4S22U elements they provide tanks with effective
protection from both shaped charge (reducing the destructive capacity up to 80%) and armour
piercing projectiles (up to 60%).

Also, the destructive capacity of other weapons is significantly reduced: unitary anti-tank guided
missiles – up to 60% and RPG/SPG grenades – up to 90%. At the same time, the elements are
protected from detonation caused by fragments and small arms ammunition hitting (up to 30mm
caliber).

Our company carries out both supplies of elements for Kontakt-5 systems to replace the
outdated ones (without any design changes), and development of design documentation for
installation of the 4S22U-based ERA systems on existing and new models of tanks.
